Marquez completes the Aragon double
Marc Marquez swept both races at the Michelin Grand Prix of Aragon, winning Saturday's Sprint by 1.140 seconds over his own brother Alex Marquez before backing it up with a 1.754-second Sunday victory over Pedro Acosta in the full Grand Prix. Marco Bezzecchi completed the podium in both races, finishing third in the Sprint and third again on Sunday.
It's the kind of complete weekend Marquez has made look routine at MotorLand Aragon specifically, on a circuit that continues to suit the Ducati Lenovo package as well as it suits him personally.
How the race unfolded
Sunday's 41:10.969 winning time gave Marquez a comfortable margin over Acosta's Red Bull KTM, with Bezzecchi's Aprilia completing the podium 3.629 seconds back. Alex Marquez followed his brother home in fourth, ahead of Jorge Martin in fifth — a quieter result for the championship leader on a weekend that didn't go entirely his way further down the order either.
A rough weekend for his own teammate
Marquez's factory Ducati teammate Francesco Bagnaia was one of four riders who failed to see the chequered flag, retiring after five laps. He was joined on the not-classified list by Franco Morbidelli (five laps), Raul Fernandez (six laps) and Toprak Razgatlioglu (20 laps) — a difficult weekend across the board for several riders who'd hoped to challenge at the front.
The standings after Aragon
Marquez's maximum-points weekend — 25 for the Grand Prix win plus 12 for the Sprint — cut his championship deficit to leader Jorge Martin from 40 points to 19. Martin still leads on 256 points, with Marquez now up to second on 237 and Bezzecchi third on 232, just 24 behind Martin himself. With three riders separated by fewer than 25 points, the title fight has tightened considerably heading into the season's final rounds.
